PERLIS SET TO GENERATE RM 800 MILLION THROUGH TWO STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS

Perlis is poised to generate RM 800 million in revenue through two major strategic collaborations, marking a significant milestone in the state’s economic transformation.

The announcement was made by the Chief Minister of Perlis, Mohd Shukri Ramli, during the MIDA Invest Series – Perlis: Uncovering the Hidden Gem at Perdana Hall, MIDA Sentral, Kuala Lumpur, on 20 February 2025.

The partnerships, which focus on industrial and logistics development, are expected to drive substantial growth and attract both domestic and international investors.

“The Chuping Valley Industrial Area (CVIA) is designed to support Malaysia’s sustainability goals and attract investments in key sectors such as green manufacturing, halal industries, renewable energy, and energy-efficient vehicles,” he said.

“Another major project is the Perlis Inland Port (PIP), which is expected to become a vital logistics hub, enhancing cross-border trade with Thailand and strengthening Perlis’ role in the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT),” he said.

The collaborations include a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Perlis Inland Port and the Port of Penang, signed in November 2024, to facilitate cross-border container movement between Sumatra, Penang, Perlis, and Thailand.

Additionally, an agreement with global logistics giant MAERSK is set to further enhance Perlis’ position as a key player in regional trade.

“The involvement of MAERSK in Perlis Inland Port proves that our efforts are gaining attention from the world’s largest container and freight operators.

This is a positive step towards increasing the use of rail transport for cross-border cargo movement,” he said.

Beyond industrial and logistics advancements, the Perlis State Government is also actively promoting investment in the agriculture and tourism sectors.

Perlis, often regarded as a hidden gem, offers vast potential for tourism with its stunning limestone hills, serene coastal areas, and tranquil paddy fields.

In agriculture, the state is already well known for rice cultivation and Harumanis mango plantations, but further opportunities in modern farming and agribusiness remain untapped.

The Chief Minister reaffirmed the state’s commitment to ensuring Perlis becomes an attractive destination for high-value investments.

“We will not rest on our laurels. Our focus remains on attracting companies committed to developing cutting-edge technologies and sustainable investments,” he said.

He also encouraged investors to seize the opportunities available in Perlis, emphasizing the state’s readiness to facilitate business growth through incentives and strategic support.

“Let’s work together and build a prosperous future in Perlis,” he concluded.
